Overview
Using a set of wooden skittles painted with fraction lines (whole, halves, thirds, quarters, etc.), the child explores how a whole can be divided into equal parts. The skittles provide a concrete, three-dimensional representation of common fractions and their equivalences.
Objectives
What the child gains from this work
Name and recognize common fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, etc.). Understand that fractions are equal parts of a whole. Compare sizes of different fractions visually. Explore equivalence (two 1/4 = 1/2). Prepare for operations with fractions.
