Rhyming Basket

10 min

presentation

Overview

The Rhyming Basket contains pairs of small objects or pictures whose names rhyme (e.g., cat/hat, dog/log, fan/can). The child sorts or matches the objects by rhyme sound. This game develops phonological awareness, sound discrimination, and prepares the ear for reading and spelling. It is a fun, concrete way to explore word families.

Objectives

What the child gains from this work

Identify words that rhyme by listening to ending sounds. Match objects or pictures that share the same rime. Develop phonological awareness and sound play. Expand vocabulary through rhyming pairs. Prepare for phonics and spelling patterns.
