presentation

Overview

The child tests various objects with a magnet to discover which materials are attracted (magnetic) and which are not. They sort the objects into two groups and record results. This introduces the scientific method of prediction, testing, observation, and classification while exploring a fundamental force of nature.

Objectives

What the child gains from this work

Predict and test which objects are attracted to a magnet. Classify materials as magnetic or non-magnetic. Develop skills in scientific observation and recording. Understand that only certain metals (iron, steel, nickel) are magnetic. Experience cause and effect with magnets.
